Bai Indigo Shibori | Yunnan Province, China
This item is currently out of stock.
Bai Indigo Shibori Textile with Crane, Flower & Dragon pattern from Yunnan Province, China. Very large 100% cotton fabric, stitch-resist-dyed with a wonderful deep, dark indigo color. Great contrast with the expertly crafted stitch-resist which is very bright white.
The modern shibori methods we use today stay close to their traditional roots when the technique first entered Japan from China during the 8th century. The term shibori derives from word shiboru meaning “to wring, squeeze, and press.” It is a range of techniques that involve manipulating, folding, stitching, binding the cloth before dyeing in order to create distinctive geometric and floral textures.
