Bai Indigo Shibori Textile with Oval Flora pattern from Yunnan Province, China. Very large and beautiful cotton fabric stitch-resist-dyed with natural very dark indigo dye.
The modern shibori methods use d today stay close to their traditional roots when the technique first entered Japan from China during the 8th century. The term shibori derives from word shiboru meaning “to wring, squeeze, and press.” It is a range of techniques that involve manipulating, folding, stitching, binding the cloth before dyeing in order to create distinctive geometric and floral textures.
