This item is currently out of stock.
Vintage Yap stone money pendant on leather cord. 4 inch diameter.
Yap is a tiny island in Micronesia known for its stone money or Rai. Rai are large doughnut-shaped, carved disks of (usually) calcite, up to 12 feet in diameter (most are much smaller). The smallest can be as little as 1.4 inches in diameter. Rai stones were quarried on several of the Micronesian islands, mainly Palau, but briefly on Guam as well, and transported for use as money to the island of Yap.
Excellent vintage condition.
