What's Up With The Hoods Out In Astoria? by photographer Dennis McGrath is an archive of photos McGrath took of the skate scene in New York from 1995-2000. Published by Monstera Edition, 2017.
"One day while out skateboarding around New York City, Mike Hernandez asked me “Yo D McGrza, what’s up with the hoods out in Astoria?” then went on to say “Greek nigga’s huh? At least you're white!” My brother Jon lived in Astoria, Queens, so that’s where I would stay most Summers throughout the 90’s. The photographs in this book are from my many random trips to NYC from 1995-2000. I was living in San Francisco, shooting skateboard photos for a living at the time so it made sense to escape the cold foggy Summers of SF for the hot humid streets of New York.
